JONESVILLE — The Jonesville Historical Society is hosting its 25th anniversary Jonesville Jubilee on May 7 and this year’s celebration has a special mission. Event Coordinator Becky Wood said the goal for this year’s Jubilee is to raise funds to repair deteriorating signs and statues at the Veterans Park on River Road.
The Veterans Park includes statues honoring veterans, many of which have been vandalized. The Park also includes signage detailing much of the local history of Jonesville, but over the years have been damaged by rain and are nearly unreadable now.
Wood said the park is a special place in Jonesville where many go for a time of quiet reflection.
“We want to make sure its well taken care of,” Wood said.
She also expressed the need for the history of the area to be shared with the community and visitors.
“We are losing a lot of history in our little town,” she said.
The Jubilee has gone by different names of the years, but has always been a fun community-focused day with local vendors and live music.
Last year’s Jubilee was a great success, Wood said, with some food vendors even selling out.
This year’s Jubilee will once again feature food vendors with items such as hot dogs, hamburgers, kettle corn and more. Craft vendors will offer items such as clothing, artwork, woodwork, drinking tumblers and more.
Live music throughout the day will feature Easy Money at 10 a.m.; Firestorm at 1 p.m.; James Kipple at 2:30 p.m. and Creekside at 4 p.m. The Jonesville Friends of the Library will host BINGO from 5 to 7 p.m. The music will continue at 7 p.m. with James Kipple returning to the stage, followed by Creekside from 8 to 9 p.m.
The evening will conclude with fireworks around 9:30 p.m.
Wood said the event still has opportunities for sponsorships. Donations toward the park updates are always requested. Wood said donations in any amount will help.
