LifeForce Games Raises $5M Seed Round To Launch Blockchain-Based Gaming Platform

LifeForce Games, the blockchain game development studio headed by the founders of the largest metaverse developer worldwide, today announced the successful completion of its $5 million seed round. The round was led by Lemniscap with participation from CMT Digital, Sfermion, Hartmann Capital, and Sterling VC, as well as notable investors Ready Player DAO and Neon DAO.

LifeForce Games intends to use the $5 million raised from the seed round to build out and launch its first title in the play-and-earn gaming space. This game will be the first in a portfolio of games, all connected through a gaming-focused metaverse — giving players the ability to truly realize the potential of blockchain-based gaming.

Catherine Carroll, better known as Satsuma, Co-CEO of LifeForce Games, said: “Play-and-earn blockchain games can actually be fun, and building aesthetically-pleasing content on metaverses does not have to be difficult.” Ryan Inman, aka Boomer, the Co-CEO at LifeForce added: “LifeForce Games seeks to make metaverse and blockchain gaming experiences more accessible to all, and we are encouraged and heartened to have received support from major players in the blockchain VC and metaverse DAO spaces who also believe in our vision.”

Despite the meteoric rise of blockchain gaming and metaverse platforms in recent years, the industry still faces several key challenges. Many play-and-earn blockchain games in the industry are utility-based and lack the actual gaming experience that gamers seek. Play-and-earn games also require cryptocurrency from the outset, presenting a significant barrier to entry to non-crypto natives exploring the world of blockchain gaming. Furthermore, the lack of interoperability of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) across other games and platforms, as well as the general lack of distribution channels, make it difficult for blockchain games to reach the scale that is common in the traditional gaming industry.

Meanwhile, metaverse platforms face the issue of complex and difficult content creation processes; the lack of content immediately upon launch; virtual land that is not fully optimized for monetization; and visual elements that are often unappealing to their audiences.

LifeForce Games sets out to address these challenges by developing and onboarding gaming experiences that are actually fun to play; would not require players to own and use crypto, but instead encourage its usage. The company is also working on innovations that would enable NFT interoperability across other games and platforms, and offering novel monetization elements for gamers to use virtual land.

With a view on accelerating the development of an interoperable and open metaverse, LifeForce Games will offer a metaverse-as-a-service network, on which gaming studios and individuals can easily build engaging and visually appealing content immediately upon launch.

Roderik van der Graaf, Founder of Lemniscap, said: “It is clear that the GameFi industry has massive growth potential, and blockchain gaming will be fundamental to the creation and enrichment of the Web 3.0 experience. LifeForce Games’ relentless focus on innovation that addresses this sector puts them in a unique position to spearhead the growth of the metaverse gaming ecosystem, and we are confident of their long-term success in the blockchain ecosystem.”

“Lemniscap is thrilled to have led this successful funding round, and we are certain that the LifeForce Games team will continue pushing boundaries that will shape the contours of Web 3.0 and blockchain games of the future,” van der Graaf added.

With a team consisting of gaming and blockchain veterans, including senior team members from EA, Daybreak, Amazon, Sony Playstation, and Sony Online Entertainment, LifeForce Games will now leverage its new funding to scale-up and realize the full potential of fun, monetized, metaverse blockchain gaming experiences in the next digital frontier.
