Ukrainian government launches official cryptocurrency donation website to raise funds

The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov tweeted on March 14 that the official donation website of Ukraine to raise funds has launched and anyone around the world can make cryptocurrency donations to Ukraine on the website. The donation platform has been launched as a collaboration between the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Everstake, and cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The cryptocurrency exchange FTX converts crypto funds received into fiat and sends the donations to the National Bank of Ukraine.
The website named as ‘Aid for Ukraine’ marks the first-ever instance of a cryptocurrency exchange directly cooperating with a public financial entity to provide a way out for crypto donations. The website validates the need for donations on its website:

  • Donations are needed to support Ukraine, which is in the middle of a war, and has seen many fatalities and casualties of numerous adults and children.
  • Donations are needed to help Ukraine fight for its freedom with continuous supplies of ammunition and necessities.
  • The website would support Ukraine with armed forces and humanitarian aid to Ukrainian citizens in dire need in the ongoing war against Russia.
  • It has enlisted crypto addresses and bank account information for the government of Ukraine for donation.
  • It is accepting crypto currencies like bitcoin (BTC), ethereum (ETH), tether (USDT), polkadot (DOT), solana (SOL), dogecoin (DOGE), and monero (XMR).
  • Besides, the Ukrainian government will also accept donations in fiat currencies namely USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, and CAD.
  • The website features comments of important figures involved on the platform:
    • Fedorov thanked the crypto community for support and exhorted to comtinue doing so.
    • Mike Chobanian, the President of Blockchain association of Ukraine, said that the war is not just the war against centralized regime. This is the birth of blockchain as a backbone of global security.

The funds will also be used for ensuring cyber security and digital infrastructure recovery, and for providing additional protection and migration of registers and for buying special technical equipment, bitcoin.com reported citing the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. So far, Ukraine has received a total of over $550 million crypto donations.
