DETROIT (WWJ) – A group of Canadian truck drivers who are blocking the Ambassador Bridge into Canada from Detroit say they won’t relent until the Canadian government scraps a vaccine mandate for truckers who cross the border.
The blockade, which began on Monday and showed no signs of letting up, as of Wednesday afternoon, is part of the “Freedom Convoy” movement, which many Canadians have jumped in line to support.
But what sort of ripple effect will the demonstrations at North America’s busiest border crossing have on the economy and beyond? WWJ’s Zach Clark has more details.
**UPDATE 2/10, 9 a.m. — Thursday morning, the trucker protests in Windsor had the bridge shut down in both directions.
With Wyandotte Street near the bridge inaccessible, all motorists were advised to take the tunnel to and from the U.S.
The White House now says it’s monitoring the situation.
