Delfin Isidoro Gallegos — “Spider” as he was known to all his family and friends, beloved husband and father, was called home to be with his heavenly father on Feb. 20.
Delfin was born on May 12, 1932, in Monero, N.M., one of three children born to George Santiago Gallegos and Maria Genara Marquez. He lived most of his adult life in the Pagosa Springs area. He had numerous jobs, including working as a log skidder and operating heavy machinery for the coal mine. He was a Penitente from Edith, Colo. He married Marina “Mamie” Gonzales on Oct. 25, 1955, in Lumberton, N.M., at St. Frances Church. They started their life together in Lumberton and moved to Juanita and eventually Pagosa Springs soon after. Throughout his life, he loved being outdoors and with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mamie Gallegos, and son Claude Gallegos (Barbi). Also surviving are his sister, Georgia Haiduk; brother James Romero; sister Lisa Romero; and grandsons Lawrence, Delfin and Andrew Gallegos. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maria Gallegos; brother Alfredo Gallegos; and sister Irene Gallegos.
Husband, father, grandpa, brother, tio, compadre — and friend to countless more — Spider will be remembered as such and so much more than words can describe. He was loved by all those who knew him. His lasting memories should bring comfort to all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the Pagosa Springs Hospital/Medics and Hospice of Colorado and New Mexico. They were always there when needed. To all the family and friends who have reached out and have had Spider and the family in your thoughts and prayers — thank you. He truly loved you all.
A rosary will be held Thursday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Mass will be held Friday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. with the burial following at Juanita Cemetery. Due to COVID, seating and attendance will be limited inside the church. The family asks those who wish to pay their respects to attend the ceremony at the Juanita Cemetery or to park along the route of the procession to the cemetery, which will proceed from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church through 8th Street and on to the Juanita Cemetery following Mass.
