Minor Changes Ripple Through State Football Rankings

There were no changes at the top of the GPB Rankings this week, but most of the classifications were shuffled following an upset.

Continuing as No. 1 teams are: Buford in Class 7A, Hughes in 6A, Ware County in 5A, North Oconee in 4A, Cedar Grove in 3A, Fitzgerald in 2A, Prince Avenue Christian in Class A Division I and Early County in Class A Division II.

One of the biggest surprises occurred in Class 5A, where Calhoun was upset by Hiram. The loss occurred one week after the Yellow Jackets had beaten then-No. 1 Cartersville in triple overtime. The setback knocked Calhoun from No. 4 to No. 9.

In Class 7A, Walton (No. 5 last week) dropped out of the poll after its loss to No. 7 North Cobb, a game shown on GPB Sports. Click here to watch the replay. 

In Class 4A, Whitewater dropped from No. 6 to No. 10 with its loss to Trinity Christian and Burke County fell from No. 7 to No. 9 after its loss to No. 5 Benedictine.

In Class 3A, No. 6 Carver-Columbus, No. 7 Hebron Christian and No. 9 Gilmer fell out of the rankings following their loss. In Class A, Division I No. 10 Social Circle and Division II No. 10 Telfair County were bounced from the rankings after their loss.
