(Wilmington, DE) The Peoples Festival celebrates Peace, Unity, and One Love at the 28th Annual Tribute to Bob Marley at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park from 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 17th.
Wilmington, Delaware is the perfect setting for such a tribute. Bob Marley, the world-renowned reggae superstar, made Wilmington his first American home from 1968 when he first visited his mother on Tatnall Street, until moving the family to Miami in 1977. Bob worked at two major Delaware icons during his time spent here, DuPont and Chrysler. His 3 eldest children attended public schools here, and his second son Stephen was born here!
In his all-too-brief lifetime, (2/6/45 to 5/11/81), Bob Marley built a musical career that spanned the globe and gained him worldwide iconic status. Earning him many awards; including a song of the millennium in 2000, “One Love”. His positive music continues to grow in popularity with new generations, making him even more popular now than in his lifetime!
This Tribute to Bob is the longest-running festival of its kind in the country! Inspired by his Mother and manifested by long-time friends and dozens of volunteers we continue to draw people from far and near to Wilmington! Our purpose has been to highlight his life and connection to our city! We’ve been spreading the news for 28 years! ‘MARLEY’ released in 2012, featured his life, family, and friends.
This is a year of “REVIVAL” Non-stop World Beat and Reggae music will ignite the stage from 2 to 10 p.m. with performances by local artists; Ghetto Songbird, Jahiti, Monero, and a host of top-ranking DJs.
