Ahead of Memorial Day on Monday, the Joseph E. Martin American Legion Post 336 will host a dedication ceremony for its new veterans memorial. The ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 29. The memorial is in front of the American Legion building, located at 220 Legion Drive in East Bend.
The American Legion building has been in East Bend since the early 1950s. The members began fundraising about a year ago for a veterans memorial to be placed in front of the building. The memorial includes flag poles representing each branch of service.
“The community support has been tremendous,” said Post Commander David Shore.
Guest speaker for the dedication will be American Legion State Commander Jim Quinlan.
Yadkin County will host its annual Memorial Day service at the Yadkin County Park, located at 6600 Service Road behind the YMCA. The ceremony will include speakers from various local veteran organizations and the reading of names of Yadkin County veterans who lost their lives in service to the nation.
