Russian businessman received a letter demanding monthly payments in Monero

Indefibank CEO Sergey Mendeleev received a letter from unknown people who extort cryptocurrency from him under the threat of sending false reports about mining on his behalf. The businessman told ForkLog about this.

The authors of the appeal demanded to pay them Monero in the equivalent of $500 every month, calling their offer «discount».

«Don’t you want to be mined all over Russia on your behalf? Then you can take advantage of the promotional offer: buy immunity for only $500 per month. Payments on the first day of each month in Monero», the letter says.

The attackers also mentioned Alexander Lebedev, Mendeleev’s partner in the Indefieco DeFi project, and who, according to some sources, is associated with theft bitcoins from the WEX exchange of entrepreneur Konstantin Malofeev.

In case of refusal to cooperate, the extortionists promised to resume their «mining» various infrastructure facilities in the Russian Federation. On this day, Mendeleev’s mail received about a dozen responses from mail robots from city administrations about receiving messages on his behalf.

In a comment to ForkLog, the crypto businessman suggested that the authors of the letter most likely had nothing to do with the WEX case.

«I’m 99% I am sure that the person is not writing from the Russian Federation, otherwise he would have known that nothing works here until May 4, and all his letters will go to the pussy in the tray», he added.

Recall that at the end of January 2022, the name of Mendeleev was used in the distribution of a series of false reports about mining in various regions of the Russian Federation. In the drafted appeals, the attackers indicated the real mailbox and phone number of the businessman.

Then Mendeleev connected this attack with his ongoing investigations. In particular, he mentioned the material published in ForkLog about the transfer of part of the bitcoins from the wallet of the “miner” who calls himself a WEX client to the Binance exchange.
