Bobby Gough Obituary (2022) – Mt. Pleasant, SC

Bobby Luther Gough, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., husband of Jacqueline W. Gough, passed away peacefully May 12, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, cherished grandfather, brother, and friend. His celebration of life service was held Monday, May 16, in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. at 12 p.m. Entombment with military honors followed in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. Bobby was born April 3, 1937, in Yadkin County, son of the late John M. Gough and the late Nina Sizemore Gough. He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant. Bobby could be found reading his bible most days and placing his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He quietly lived his faith in humble service to his beloved wife Jackie for nearly 65 years and his cherished children and grandchildren. It was his strong faith, determination, and loving family support that sustained him through fifty years of heart-related issues, and with each setback he bounced back. He will be remembered for his perseverance and zest for life. His strong work ethic took this small town boy to high-level management with Mutual of Omaha where he worked for 26 years. He won many trips that allowed he and his wife to travel the world together. Bobby loved and lived to serve others and truly lived his life by the Golden Rule. Even while he was just recovering from a heart transplant, he was driving church friends to MUSC for dialysis. His family lovingly referred to him as their “Little Miracle Man.” To know Bobby was to love him. A kinder, gentler man has never lived. Bobby will be remembered by all who loved him for his giving nature and spirit of generosity. His life motto was “It’s better to give than to receive.” He will also be remembered for his innate ability to see the best in people and circumstances. He always saw the “glass half full.” As his loving caregivers recounted to the family, his grateful heart for every little thing kept everyone’s spirits high, even on the hardest of days. His parting words to his family “I’ll get through this” will be their guiding light until they meet again. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6. Bobby is survived by his wife, Jackie Gough; children, Gina Robards (Jay) and Todd Gough (Blair) all of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Paul Gough, and Jerrell Gough (Linda) both of Winston Salem; sister, Mary Frances Wilmoth of Yadkinville; sister-in-law, Ellen Gough of Lewisville; six grandchildren, JB, Mary Beth, Grace and Bobby Robards; Kaitlyn and Kelsey Gough; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Lois Purdue, his brothers, Wallace Lee “Buddy” Gough and Gilbert Gough, and his brothers-in-law J. C. Wilmoth, and Carly Purdue.
