Springfield, IL-(Vandalia Radio)-A lawsuit over the state’s handling of new cannabis dispensary licenses is causing ripple effects across the industry.
Cannabis Business Association of Illinois Executive Director Pam Althoff said there’s an oversupply of the product because of ongoing litigation challenging the application scoring process for new dispensaries.
There are 110 original dispensaries throughout Illinois with 185 potential licensees waiting. The situation is frustrating to consumers and business owners alike, she said.
Despite the legal wrangling, state licensed dispensaries have sold nearly $2.3 billion worth of cannabis since January 2020. Total taxes collected by the state since then is nearly $680 million.
