In January local Boy Scouts of America districts combined to make a new larger district. The New Seven Rivers District is comprised from the former Dogwood District of Surry County, the Hanging Rock District of Stokes County, and the Laurel District, which was made up of Yadkin County and portions of Wilkes and Alleghany counties.
“The name comes from the fact there is a rich resource of rivers in the region and that rivers have been the life source connecting people through the ages,” said Chris Lawson, district executive for the Seven Rivers District, Old Hickory Council, Boy Scouts of America.
“I am pleased to offer the celebration that the Seven Rivers District in this year’s Scouting for Food Campaign has a growing total of more than 10,000 pounds of food collected by local Packs and Troops benefitting outreach ministries throughout the region,” he said. “The Scouting for Food event this year included hundreds of youth and adult leaders from all corners of the district. This type of event is vital to help local families in need…I thank the community for its continuing support of Scouting and especially its support of Scouting for Food.”
