Scott Bauguess, a 12-year veteran of the Securities and Exchange Commission, has joined cryptocurrency exchange platform operator Coinbase as vice president of global regulatory policy.
He announced his new role Monday in a LinkedIn post and shared that developments in the crypto ecosystem from a policy perspective encouraged him to become involved in digital asset transformation.
Bauguess said he will continue to teach financial market policy at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business.
His SEC career included roles as acting chief economist at SEC and acting director of the agency’s economic risk and analysis division, where he led risk assessment and predictive analytics for counter-fraud initiatives.
He comes to Coinbase after the company appointed Thaya Knight, former counsel to an SEC commissioner, last month as senior public policy manager for capital markets regulatory affairs.
