£14 heatless ripple curlers promise to create perfect beachy waves overnight

TikTok is a gold mine for heatless hair styling tips. There’s the dressing gown belt trick which produces big, bouncy curls overnight, as well as the T-shirt hack, which creates a heat-free blow-out effect said to rival the effects of Dyson’s popular Airwrap styler. Now there’s a new heatless hair trend in town – and, just like these other viral tricks, it’ll have you looking completely bonkers in a bid to achieve gorgeous locks.

Aodaer Water Ripple Hair Rollers, £13.99 here, is a bizarre yet brilliant kit made up of 30 swirly, colourful hair rollers and three “styling hooks”. To create mermaid-style waves, you wet your hair and pull individual sections through each roller using the hooks provided.

The brand states that you should keep the curlers on the hair for between 15 and 20 minutes minimum, but claims “the longer you use it, the better the effect”.

These £14 ripple curlers are going viral on TikTok

TikToker @sarasaadia recently went viral after trying out the kit herself. In the clip that’s been viewed over 24 million times, the beauty influencer dampens her hair before applying the spirals to her tresses and leaves them to set for a few hours.

Appearing sceptical at first, Sara jokes, “I think this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever bought in my life, but knowing me, I naturally have to try it.”

The TikToker takes one of the hooks, pushes it through one of the rollers and grabs a section of her hair, before pulling her hair through the roller and leaving to set in place.

“This is so satisfying,” she says. “I think I’ve mastered the technique.”

After applying the entire set, Sara returns in a second clip to show off the results. She tells fans that she attempted to sleep in them, but as they weren’t comfortable she decided to leave them in for a few hours and remove them before bed instead.

“I cannot, and I will not, keep these in anymore, my head is pounding,” she says, before pulling the colourful swirls from her hair. After removing each strand, the TikToker is left with a beautiful head of loose mermaid-style waves – only some pieces look more defined than others.

“I should’ve wet it more, I admit,” Sara explains. “Also, if I left it on for longer then I think these defined pieces would be more consistent. Not 100% convinced. Now that I think about it, I feel like this could have been achieved if I just braided my hair while wet.”

Fans in the comment section have shared their own tips for getting the most out of the ripple curlers, with many agreeing that she should have left them in for longer or started with completely wet hair, not damp.

“Try it again with more water and let it completely dry,” one person advises.

“You took them off too early,” another says, while a third recommends she uses a hair styling product to get the best results, writing: “While it’s wet, add a light mousse or hair foam. No gel or leave-in conditioner though.”

We don’t know about you, but this looks like it might be more hassle than it’s worth! If you’re taking a break from heat-styling tools, though, we think braiding your hair and leaving it overnight is a great way to create natural, beachy waves.
