DANBURY — North Stokes’ boys easily disposed of visiting Starmount Tuesday night when the Vikings built a 40-point led in the second half and ended the game on the mercy-rule.
North had five players in double digit scoring, with one more within a point.
The Vikings exploded with 27 points in the opening quarter. The team’s leading scorer Jamison Wood added 10 points in the period, with five other teammates getting into the scoring column.
North Stokes led 27-12 after the first eight minutes played.
Wood, Treyson Mabe, and Michael Mabe tallied four points each in the second stanza and Brayden Ring and Cade Cole chipped in another three points each to help the home team to a comfortable 49-26 halftime led.
North Stokes came out of the locker room the way that started the game. The team poured in another 27 points in the period with Ring adding eight points, Samuel Collins seven, and Carson Fitch six. The Vikings ended the quarter with a running clock.
Reserve Connor Mabe ended the fourth quarter by scoring 11 of the team’s 13 points.
Wood paced the Vikings with 14 points, Ring and Collins added 13 each, and Cole and Connor Mabe had 11 each.
Michael Mabe was one point away from double-digit scoring with nine. Fitch led the team with six rebounds and Treyson Mabe paced the Vikings with six assists in the contest.
North Stokes improves to 14-2 overall and are 6-1 in the Northwest 1A Conference. The Vikings will host Alleghany (6-7, 2-4) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
With South Stokes’ 73-55 loss to Mount Airy on Tuesday, the Vikings move into first place by a half a game.
