College Avenue in Broad Ripple is scheduled to close starting Jan. 1. The busy stretch of road will be closed between 62nd and Broad Ripple Avenue, except for bus traffic. The closure enables construction of a new development project on the east side of the street.
Department of Businesses and Neighborhood Services Public Information Officer Kurt Christian said a large crane will be in the roadway for construction of the new building.
“A mixed use project, it will have offices, apartments and an underground parking component as well,” Christian said.
Approved in 2020, the project is one of the first transit-oriented developments approved in the Midtown TIF, since the Red Line opened.
An official detour will take drivers along Kessler Blvd, Meridian and 71st streets.
IndyGo’s Red Line commuters will not be impacted by the closure. Christian said IndyGo will use a southbound lane for north and south bus traffic.
“So fortunately, those people who ride the Red Line shouldn’t experience any sort of disruption,” Christian said.
The College Avenue parking garage will remain open. The road is expected to reopen in early March 2022.
