JROTC students lead the Yadkin Valley Christmas Parade.
Sunday afternoon’s Yadkin Valley Christmas Parade was one for the books. Stretching from Jonesville into Elkin, the two towns pulled out all the stops to celebrate the season in style. Firetrucks and floats and candy galore delighted parade-goers in both communities.
Jonesville Town Manager Michael Pardue called the parade a success.
“Two towns, one community,” Pardue noted. “It was a great day for our community to celebrate the joy and wonder of Christmas. It brings out the best in everyone!”
Local businesses, plenty of classic cars and area firetrucks as well as floats decorated to reflect the season with nativity scenes, Santa, the Grinch and more ventured down the streets of both towns. Marching bands from Elkin High School, Starmount and East Wilkes High School also performed in Sunday’s parade.
Children and adults gathered along the streets to catch arm-fulls of candy tossed from floats and vehicles. There were plenty of children in the parade as well on floats representing local preschools, dance schools and sports teams.
Secret judges were stationed throughout the parade route and selected float winners in five different categories. The Yadkin Valley Star award was presented to the Twisted Brotherhood. The Christmas Spirit Award went to Kristy’s Dance Academy. Foothills Meat was awarded the Elf Award. The Tin Soldier Award went to the Elkin Marching Ambassadors. Hillside Horror took home the Fruitcake Award.
