Scholars of Finance Caps Record Year of Growth; Announces $1M Donation from Ripple Co-Founder Chris Larsen

SAN FRANCISCO–()–In Q4 2021, Scholars of Finance (SOF), a rapidly growing 501(c)(3) non-profit organization on a mission to inspire integrity in the next generation of investors, received a significant donation to fuel a transformation of the financial services industry.

The organization invests in undergraduate students through leadership development, mentorship, and the active support of hundreds of purpose-driven finance executives and investors with the hope that these students will help solve some of the world’s largest problems through finance. The students join top firms, funds, and a life-long support community that empowers them to spend their careers serving the greater good by allocating millions or billions of dollars for impact.

“Scholars of Finance’s mission is critical — they are taking a grassroots approach by equipping students for leadership before they hit the finance and investing industry. As finance rapidly changes in response to issues such as climate change and inequality, these are systemic challenges and require massive amounts of capital to solve. I’m proud to support their growth in 2022 and beyond,” said Chris Larsen, Co-founder and Executive Chairman at Ripple, who donated $1,000,000 to the startup.

Chris Larsen’s donation is one of many momentous milestones for this non-profit upstart: since they hired their first full-time CEO in late 2019, the organization has raised more than $3M in commitments, built a national staff, and launched chapters at 30+ universities, including Stanford, Harvard, Wharton, and several HBCUs, reaching more than 1,500 students across the country. Top investment firms like Goldman Sachs, Blackstone, Charles Schwab, and many others have supported the organization as it launches across the country through sponsorship or their leaders speaking with and mentoring the students.

Ross Overline, CEO and Co-Founder of Scholars of Finance stated, “We are incredibly grateful for Mr. Larsen’s support and belief in our vision. When finance executives and investors control trillions of dollars, it’s a moral imperative that they are driven by a purpose greater than themself, are trustworthy, and that they are stewards for the next generation of leaders. We will use this capital by directly investing into our students to achieve our mission – to inspire character and integrity in the finance leaders of tomorrow.”
