Nicolas “Nick” Higinio Salazar
September 12, 1937 ~ December 9, 2021
Nicolas “Nick” Higinio Salazar, age 84, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021 in Ogden, UT. He was born September 12, 1937 in Monero, New Mexico to Rosenaldo Salazar and Beneranda “Bennie” Herrera Salazar. In 1975 Beneranda married James “Jim” Salazar. Nick attended grade school in Chama, NM. He moved to Ogden, Utah in 1947. He attended jr. high and Weber High School, Stevens-Henagar College for business and Weber State University.
On March 3, 1962 he married the love of his life, Margaret “Angie” Medina Salazar at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They went on many vacations including their cruise to Jamaica. They are together again.
He joined the US Navy in 1959 to 1962 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. He got an honorable discharge and joined the Navy Reserves. Worked 40 years for L3 Communications. He loved music and started his own band, El Grupo Felicidad, which he played many years. He loved running and was in three marathons with his running friend Alan Shaw. His greatest joy was his family and friends. He enjoyed serving his community by his music and was very involved in his church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was equally proud of his New Mexico and Spanish Heritage.
Nick is survived by his children, Louise Salazar, Nick Salazar, Ross Salazar and Edward (Melanie) Salazar; and sister, Pauline Medina. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Angie” Salazar; mother, Beneranda “Bennie” Herrera; father, Rosehaldo Salazar; stepfather, James Salazar; brothers, Henry Salazar, Manuel Salazar, Ross Salazar and Tony Salazar; and sisters, Maria “Mary” Salazat Lozada and Priscilla Salazar Montano.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th Street, Ogden, UT. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
