Downtown Indianapolis construction: Look closer, you might see history
Next time you’re in downtown Indianapolis, look closely at road construction and you might see history. Trenches often reveal layers of the past.

A private construction project will shut down a section of North College Avenue for several months, the Indianapolis Department of Business and Neighborhood services announced Monday.
College Avenue will close to all traffic from 62nd Street to Broad Ripple Avenue beginning 6 a.m. Saturday. It is expected to reopen in early March.
Northbound drivers should turn left on Kessler Boulevard East Drive, then right on North Meridian Street before taking another right on 71st Street to avoid the construction.
The southbound detour will be a right on 71st Street, then a left on Meridian Street before turning left on to Kessler Blvd. E Drive to get back to College Avenue.

This closure will not affect IndyGo’s Red Line, which will use the southbound lanes of College Avenue for both north and southbound transit.
The College Avenue parking garage will remain accessible for southbound traffic during construction.
