Nascar driver, Landon Cassill, will start receiving his salary entirely in Litecoin (LTC). According to ESPN, Mr. Cassill becomes the first Nascar driver to get paid entirely in cryptocurrency after a 19-race sponsorship deal with Voyager that kicks off this weekend at the Nashville Superspeedway.
Voyager is a cryptocurrency brokerage firm and a partner of the Litecoin project.
Landon Cassill is himself a cryptocurrency enthusiast and met the CEO of Voyager, Steve Ehrlich, at a crypto conference two years ago. Mr. Cassill was part of a panel at the event and has been pitching the sponsorship idea since then.
The CEO of Voyager, went on to explain the significance of the sponsorship deal through the following statement.
Landon Cassill’s focus and determination on the race track translates across everything he does…Landon also shares our vision of widespread crypto adoption, and we’re proud to be the first company to secure a primary NASCAR sponsorship completely with crypto.
Charlie Lee is a Good Friend of Landon Cassill
In addition, Mr. Cassill has invested in cryptocurrencies for several years and has no doubt that payment in Litecoin was the right move for him. He explained:
I can trade it out right away before the market changes or hang on to it as the market goes up or goes down, carve out a little bit, pay my bills with it and hold the rest.
In a Twitter commentary right after the sponsorship deal was announced, Landon Cassill explained that the Founder of Litecoin, Charlie Lee, is a close friend of his. Cassill went on to explain that Mr. Lee helped him understand Litecoin a few years back when he was mining LTC in his basement. Mr. Cassill’s tweet can be found below.
Out of the whole sponsorship, accepting Litecoin is one of my favorite parts. @SatoshiLite has been a good friend for several years and helped me understand Litecoin way back when I was mining Litecoin in my basement https://t.co/ah74KcnVDs
