HAMPTONVILLE — Fall is here and that means it’s corn maze season. Alpha and Omega Corn Maze, located at xx Cheek Rd., has become a popular agri-tourism destination not only for locals but visitors as well.
Jason Walker, co-owner of Alpha and Omega Corn Maze, said he always hoped it would grow and be successful but it has grown even more than he had expected when they first opened in 2013.
“I was hoping for it to get big but I don’t know if I would have thought it would get as big as it has,” Walker said.
In addition to the corn maze itself, the 20-acre agri-tourism complex offers more than a dozen activities including a small petting zoo, pony rides, hay rides and more. Most of the activities, with a few exceptions, are included in the admission price.
Walker said the goal has always been to add new options each year. This year’s newest activities include a tractor pull with two sizes of tractors that adults and kids can taken a turn attempting to pull using a rope. A baseball throwing activity that clocks speed and axe throwing are new this year as well.
Walker said guests come from around the state, particularly nearby places such as Boone, Greensboro, Kernersville etc., as well as even out-of-state visitors from South Carolina.
The complex has its own food concessions as well. Walker said their burgers are top sellers and they often get complimented on the quality of food.
“We have a lot of people brag on how good our food is,” he said.
This year a Halloween Extravaganza is planned for Oct. 30. Area church groups will be on-site handing out candy and the evening will conclude with a fireworks display.
The sponsor for Alpha and Omega Corn Maze this year is Mercy and Truth Ministries, a non-profit organization offering spiritual and physical help to less-fortunate people in the surrounding area of Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin Counties. Since 2017, MTM has provided food, clothes, mentorship, and Bibles to the local community.
“We were so humbled when an anonymous donor paid for Mercy and Truth Ministries to be the sponsor of The Alpha and Omega Corn Maze this year,” said Brianna Simpson of MTM. “At MTM, we strive to put a little sunshine in the lives of all those we reach while pointing them back to our one true hope, Jesus Christ. We appreciate all that Alpha and Omega does in giving back to our local community and putting smiles on the faces of our kids! It is an honor to serve this community alongside them.”
