There were ripples on the Washington Market Park lawn
The neighborhood overall did not take much of a hit from Hurricane Ida especially compared to other parts of the city — though I am sure there are stories of swamped basements that I have not heard about yet — but the Washington Market Park lawn took a beating.
The drain there has long been a problem at the park. About four years ago, the Parks Department, with funds secured by the Friends of Washington Market Park through Margaret Chin’s office, installed a French drain and regraded the lawn to improve the puddle that always appeared on the lawn after a big rain, but these record rains clearly took things to a new level.
It may be time to snake the drains before the next whopper.
