The overall cryptocurrency market rebounded on Friday as altcoins surged sharply even as Bitcoin, the world’s most popular virtual coin, traded flat. Altcoins (alternative coin) is a term to describe all other cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin.
Bitcoin was trading at approximately $46,800, up 1.57 per cent over its price 24 hours ago at 10:05 am. Its market capitalisation rose to $880 billion, but the 24-hour trading volume remained average at $1.14 billion.
Ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation, also remained flat. It was trading at $3,470, down 0.06 per cent from its value 24 hours ago. Ether’s market capitalisation remains above $400 and trading volume over the past 24 hours was $1.28 billion.

It seems more investors are opting for investments in altcoins, signalling a shift in the cryptocurrency space. Many popular altcoins had been performing exceptionally well before a sharp plunge a few days ago.
The cryptocurrency market plunged on September 8 after delays in trade and El Salvador’s adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender. While prices fell sharply on Wednesday, cryptocurrencies rebounded slightly on Thursday and have recovered further today.
