HAMPTONVILLE — Saturday marked the sweet sixteen of a special tradition in the Windsor’s Crossroads Community. The Windsor’s Crossroads Ruritan Club held its 16th annual breakfast and tractor show fundraiser. The event is much-beloved in the area and this year’s event was the largest to date.
Bill Wooten, a longtime member of the Ruritan Club, said they were worried that not many would come this year but the crowd turned out in force.
“This is probably one of our biggest crowds ever, people are chomping at the bit to get out and do something,” Wooten said.
Last year’s event was cancelled due to the pandemic but with plenty of open space, including outside seating areas to enjoy the breakfast, Wooten said the event this year was “about as safe as you can get.”
Ruritan Club member Chuck Tadano said the event, which takes place at 106-year former school house, is all about community.
“I like the fact that people can get out, especially now, and have a good time seeing their neighbors again,” Tadano said as he manned the grill frying up country ham for the breakfast.
They were around 30 tractors on display on the grounds of the Windsor’s Crossroads Community building, including some out-of-towners who made the trek to Yadkin County.
Wooten said there were participants from Lexington and Mocksville.
“That takes a lot of effort on their part,” Wooten said of folks not from the immediate area who brought tractors.
Following the breakfast, a slow moving parade of tractors went on a leisurely cruise around the countryside.
Proceeds from the Ruritan’s fundraiser go towards upkeep of the century-old community building and to assist those in need in the community.
