Rotary Ripples for the week of August 11, 2021 | Community News

Rotary welcomes our newest member, Jason Mechling, manager at Les Schwab, and Les Schwab – Orofino as a corporate member. Jason and Les Schwab have already been a big help with the park located across the street from their store.

We have a new member application from Andrew Scott of Orofino. He is sponsored by Norm Fitzsimmons and his application was approved by the Membership Committee on July 23. His application was approved by the Board and will be read to the members at our next regular meeting.

We received a Thank You in the Clearwater Memorial Public Library monthly newsletter for our partnership in the Little Free Library Boxes project.

Signups for the Lumberjack Days food booth project will begin at our meeting this week. We have a total of 124 four hour shifts that need to be covered. Contact Kathy Wortman or Mike Hedrick for more information.

We received correspondence from our District Governor recommending masks for all members during indoor meetings in high transmission areas, as well as following local and state health guidelines. Hybrid meetings are also recommended and Randy Bowen is working with the District Technology Committee to improve our hybrid and online meeting capabilities. We hope to resume hybrid meetings soon.

Orofino Rotary has a Facebook page. Please like and share it with your friends. If you have info or photos to post, please send them to Randy Bowen, Mike Hedrick, or Belinda Stockton. Randy is working on our new website.

Belinda Stockton reported that she is working with Teri Bolling on the Orofino Rotary Fun Run scheduled for Sept. 25. They will need members to help the day of the event.

Chairman Jim O’Leary reported the Highway 7 Cleanup project was done on Saturday, July 31. We had 13 participants and picked up 17 bags of trash.

The Rotary Pavilion at City Park has been pressure washed and part of the counter top has been replaced. We will paint the counter tops shortly before Lumber Jack Days.

The fencing for the park near Les Schwab is awaiting delivery. The doors on the Food Booth trailer will be replaced soon.

James Jordan asked for a $500 donation from our club to the Orofino elementary school to help teachers with their out of pocket costs for classroom supplies. The Board approved this expenditure and two club members will match our donation, bringing the total donation to $1,500.

Kathy is still working on the senior food box project. This project would require one or two Rotarians to make home deliveries once a month.
