Frank W. Ripple Sr., 74, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at home in Broadalbin.
He was born in Gloversville, on March 27, 1947, a son of the late Warren and Vivian Brower Ripple and was a 1966, graduate of Johnstown High School. Frank was a lifelong Johnstown resident, but recently moved to live with family in Broadalbin.
Frank was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he reached the rank of Sergeant. He served in the Vietnam War, with nearly three years of active duty.
Frank was employed as a lithographer for nearly 40 years and retired in 2007, from Baronet Litho, formerly in Johnstown. After retiring, Frank worked as a local taxi driver to stay busy.
Frank was an avid runner and cyclist. As a runner, he was a member of the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club as well as participating in many marathons including the Boston Marathon nine times and as a cyclist he participated in ultra distance races and qualified for the Race Across America (RAAM). Frank also had a passion for the less arduous sports of bowling and golf.
He was predeceased by his wife of 27 years, Darlene Patulski Ripple.
Survivors include five children, Lori (Phil) Schriner of Fonda, Laci Ripple (Tyrone) of Gloversville, Edward (Nancy) Ripple of Milford, CT, Frank (Colleen) Ripple of Broadalbin, and Christine (Jonathan) Adams of Niskayuna; his former wife, Cathy Hayner of Johnstown; a brother, William Smrtic of Gloversville; four sisters, Sharon Zabawczuk of Broadalbin, Wendy Lyons and Julie Hilton, both of Central, UT, and Linda Ripple of Gloversville; and five grandchildren, Mason, Kiara, Jacob, Emma, and James.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 21, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 and Black Street), Johnstown. Burial of cremated remains will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, with the Rev. Bonnie Orth officiating
