ChainSafe has reportedly received a development grant to natively integrate Chainlink (LINK) into the Cosmos software development kit (SDK).
As previously reported, the Chainlink Community Grant Program offers financial resources to the development teams and researchers creating a “more functional, accessible, and socially impactful” Chainlink Network.
Chainlink says that it encourages skilled individual software engineers and development teams to apply to the grant program. Researchers are also welcome to collaborate with the Chainlink team.
As noted in the announcement, ChainSafe, a blockchain protocol and infrastructure development company, has been awarded a Chainlink community grant in order to carry out a native integration of Chainlink into the Cosmos-SDK.
As mentioned in the update, the grant will be supporting various smart contract development teams within the Cosmos ecosystem wanting to create “externally connected” decentralized applications (dApps) on Tendermint-powered blockchains using Chainlink Oracles.
After being completed, the Cosmos ecosystem will start supporting various (decentralized finance) DeFi, (non-fungible tokens) NFT, gaming, and insurance products and markets “thanks to seamless and native access to Chainlink’s time-tested and fully functional oracle networks.”
With the funding provided by Chainlink community grant, ChainSafe will focus on the following:
- Create a Cosmos-SDK module that “supports Chainlink oracle networks by accepting aggregate signed data from a set of oracles and storing it in the blockchain state.”
- Ensure compatibility with existing Chainlink Off-Chain Reporting (OCR) Data Feeds by “supporting oracle reports produced by its peer-to-peer consensus protocol.”
- Provide support for multiple data feeds within a single module instance and “allow the module to interact with other modules to dispense rewards to valid participating data providers.”
- The creation of a Chainlink module for the Cosmos-SDK will “enable application developers in the Cosmos ecosystem to access Chainlink’s widely used Price Feeds, including the most recent and historical data.”
- The Chainlink module will also “support the existing Chainlink OCR feeds already used in production and expand support for connection to any API, opening up access to premium authenticated data sources and enabling data aggregation to be done securely, reliably, and cost-efficiently.”
ChainSafe is a blockchain or distributed ledger tech (DLT) protocol and infrastructure developer that offers engineering support for open-source software initiatives.
Supported by application developers with an extensive technical background and expertise, ChainSafe has considerable experience creating blockchain-related software, such as the Ethereum 2.0 Typescript implementation Lodestar, the Filecoin node Rust implementation Forest; the Polkadot host Golang implementation Gossamer, the Rust implementation of Mina, and the Ethereum Javascript API Web3.js.
Chainsafe has also received a Chainlink community grant in order to expand the Chainlink oracle pallet on Polkadot, “proving their knowledge of the Chainlink tech stack and heterogeneous blockchain ecosystems.”
Cosmos is described as an “ever-expanding” ecosystem of interconnected apps and services, “built for a decentralized future.” Cosmos apps and services connect using IBC, the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, “allowing users to freely exchange assets and data across sovereign, decentralized blockchains.”
The Cosmos-SDK is “a highly flexible framework for building blockchains, which is based on Tendermint core and can interoperate through IBC.” By integrating Chainlink into the Cosmos ecosystem, “over 247+ applications/services and $78B+ in digital assets gain access to high-quality external data made available through decentralized oracle networks that are highly available, precise, and tamper-proof.”
Aidan Hyman, Co-founder and CEO of ChainSafe, stated:
“We’re proud to continue our great relationship with Chainlink, helping expand the ecosystem into the Cosmos network with a custom Cosmos-SDK module. This is a giant step towards providing the Cosmos ecosystem with reliable oracles, empowering new use cases to be realized. We look forward to contributing our domain expertise in the Cosmos ecosystem by connecting Chainlink’s proven oracle infrastructure to the expanding list of Cosmos blockchains and applications and providing secure, reliable sources of external data.”
