This year will see Valentine’s Day look a little different – instead of a getting dressed to the nines to have a fancy dinner with your significant other in that lush restaurant you were hoping to try, all romantic nights out are seemingly off the menu.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has the UK put back into lockdown once more, with all pubs, restaurants and bars forced to close for the foreseeable.
But while you may not be getting all dressed up, there’s no excuse for your nails to look limp and lifeless. Yes, while your usual nail bar may have also closed shop for the time being, we at Tyla have found a range of super cute nail ideas that you can try yourself at home.
We’re particularly loving this raspberry ripple effect done by Instagram account @NailsbyMarije – which looks chic and sophisticated without being too difficult to attempt without a beautician’s help.
For those looking to recreate the ‘raspberry ripple’ nail, we spoke to nail expert Louise Tattersall, who works at the Bodilight Aesthetic Beauty Clinic to transform our cuticles into cute and sweet treat.
“Using nail varnish instead of gel would properly be easier to create this look,” she says. “I would recommend prepping the nail before doing the application, by pushing the cuticle and cut off any lose skin around the nail bed/ nail plate. Then file and shape and the nail (to desired shape and length) and then depending on nail varnish you could dehydrate the nail bed with acetone.
“I’d then use a solid base colour ideally white or an off white cream. I would recommend waiting for the base colour to dry fully before nail art being applied.”
3 hours agoLouise continues: “To create the ripple effect, use a nail art tool/brush and create the desired look.
“Ideally you would want a thin brush/tool to create the line. It would depend on the desired look and thickness you are going for. You need to be able that you can control the brush when creating the look.
“I would recommend taking it slow and steady. If you are using Gel or have a gel base, nail art should be done with nail polish. It is easier to wipe off and start again without ruining the base.
“Once dried add a top coat to seal. “
Of course, the best colours for Valentine’s Day raspberry ripple nail are reds, pinks, beiges, creams and white – but feel free to swap out for any colours you fancy.
If this is a bit too much even if you are an ice-cream fiend, you could always try a simple heart pattern – which is certainly effective even if done sparingly.
