Explosion sounds reported in Yadkin, Forsyth counties

Just before 7 p.m. on Saturday multiple reports began coming in to both the Yadkin and Forsyth County Sheriff’s office regarding the sounds of explosions. Ground shaking and loud sounds were reported in various parts of Yadkin County as well as the Lewisville area.

Though officers is various areas have investigated the reports, an exact location where the explosions originated has not yet been determined. Yadkin County Sheriff Ricky Oliver said based on the reports that they do believe the explosions came from somewhere in Yadkin County and were likely the result of Tannerite, a substance used in exploding targets for long range firearm practice. The substance is legal to own and use.

There were no reports of damage or injury following the incident though it did prompt the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office to post a message to its Facebook page asking area residents to avoid dialing 911 regarding the sounds.

“We are aware of the loud noises in the Lewisville area – callers are overwhelming the 911 system. We have had no reports of injuries and we do not have a confirmed cause of the noises,” the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office posted just after 7 p.m. on Saturday.
