Malcolm CasSelle (Malcolm Wesley Casselle), a blockchain technology and Bitcoin entrepreneur, has died at age 50 in Mexico.

“My younger brother, business partner, advisor and friend, Malcolm CasSelle, died in Mexico yesterday,” colleague E. David Ellington wrote on November 18, 2020 in a Facebook post. “Apparently, his friends said he had a stomach ache when he woke. He took some antibiotics. They came back six hours later to check on him and found him dead in his room (at their home).”

Malcolm CasSelle was the CEO of BIGtoken Inc., a data management platform that leverages blockchain technology to allow consumers to own, verify and sell their own personal data. He served as the CIO of OPSkins, a video game skin-trading platform, and as the president of Montréal-based Worldwide Asset Exchange (WAX), a marketplace for digital goods built on a blockchain.

BIGtoken started as a division of SRAX, Inc., which is a financial technology company that unlocks data and insights for publicly traded companies. CasSelle was also a board member of SRAX.

In August 2019, the United States District Court for the Central District of California issued a summons to video game virtual goods company OPSkins Group Inc. (does business as, Worldwide Asset eXchange) in response to a complaint filed by Crypto Asset Fund, LLC and Digital Capital Management, LLC. The case is CASE NO.: 2:19-cv-06983. CasSelle actively participated in the offer and sale of WAX tokens to investors including Crypto Asset Fund, according to court filings. At one time, OPSkins claimed to be the world’s largest platform for video game virtual goods traders. In June 2018, OPSkins received a cease and desist order from Valve, the developer of Steam, shortly after Defendants’ launch of the WAX ExpressTrade.
