Harrison named editor | Yadkin Ripple

Kitsey Burns Harrison

Kitsey Burns Harrison has been named editor of the The Tribune, The Yadkin Ripple and On The Vine magazine. Harrison replaces Editor Bill Colvard who retired in September.

Harrison is a native of Yadkin County and has served as a staff writer for The Yadkin Ripple since January 2014. Harrison began her journalism career in 2004 at The Tribune before leaving journalism for a time to work in marketing. She is a graduate of UNC Greensboro where she majored in Communication Studies.

“I am thrilled to take on this new role,” said Harrison. “These publications mean a lot to me because I love our beautiful Yadkin Valley region. I have enjoyed writing from a young age and I am so grateful to be able to share the stories of the people and places I call home. In this digital age there are so many ways to get news, but I think our papers are special as they have a dedicated focus to what is happening right here.”

“I am extremely pleased to have Kitsey in this role,” Regional Publisher Sandra Hurley said. “Her love for this area is evident in her writing and her dedication to covering stories, happenings and issues in the Yadkin Valley region. We will miss Bill, and wish him the best in retirement. I’m sure Kitsey looks forward to hearing from our readers to share story ideas and support for their local newspapers and websites.”

“I echo Sandra Hurley’s comments,” said Regional Editor John Peters. “Kitsey brings an incredible amount of enthusiasm and new ideas to the job. I’m looking forward to working with her and seeing the great things she’ll do with The Tribune, Yadkin Ripple and On The Vine.”

As editor, Harrison will oversee the weekly editorial content and production of The Tribune and The Yadkin Ripple, as well as editing copy and contributing articles to the two publications, and she’ll oversee the content of elkintribune.com and yadkinripple.com. In addition, Harrison will offer leadership in developing the quarterly lifestyle magazine, On The Vine which showcases the local wine region.

During her six years with The Yadkin Ripple, Harrison has won four N.C. Press Association awards in the categories of news, feature writing and personal columns.
