Coronavirus spread intensifies as cases ripple through boroughs

THE spread of the coronavirus continues to intensify across East Lancashire as new cases were recorded in all boroughs.

A further 168 new infections were reported in the latest figures, with double figures in all six boroughs bar one.

The area with the highest number of new cases – Blackburn with Darwen – reported 48 new infections, bringing the total in the borough to 2,408.

The second highest number was recorded un Pendle, where 39 people received positive test results.

There have now been 1,176 cases in the area since the start of the outbreak in March.

Following suit was Burnley, where a further 38 cases brought the borough’s total up to 942.

In Hyndburn, the total rose to 792 after 26 new cases were announced.

Rossendale’s total grew by just 10 to 580 and the Ribble Valley’s by seven to 281.
