More Japanese citizens could end up with Ripple-affiliated XRP tokens – after an exchange announced a token giveaway for new account holders, while one of the nation’s biggest crypto players said it is planning to pay eSports players and their managers in XRP.
FXCoin said it will give away XRP 50 (around USD 12) to all new account holders. In an official release, the crypto exchange stated that the offer was subject to availability, and would be awarded on a “first-come-first-served basis” until the evening of August 31.
The exchange added that customers who trade XRP 250 (around USD 61) or more with FXcoin would also receive an additional XRP 50.
The move is not unprecedented, as SBI VC Trade, the crypto exchange arm of the Japanese financial services and banking giant SBI Group ran a similar promotional offer for new customers involving XRP 50 giveaways back in May. SBI has also rewarded some of its shareholders with XRP shareholder benefits.
And now SBI, Ripple’s biggest partner in Asia, said that it is mulling a project that would involve paying pro gamers in XRP.
Per media outlet Coin Post, the business group has launched a new pro gaming subsidiary named SBI eSports. The company suggested that XRP could be used as the main currency of its new business, with Ripple tokens being issued as “salaries” to the managers of eSports teams, media coverage and also being used to fund eSports consultancies.
Today, XRP trades at around USD 0.25. The price is up by around 21% in a week and 38% in a month. XRP is still down by 22% in a year.
