- Ethereum inventor Vitalik Buterin has revealed that he has been pushing some client teams to start working on phase 1 of Eth 2.0.
- The Beacon Chain of Ethereum 2.0 will be released in November if no severe bugs are found, according to Afri Schoedon.
Ethereum co-creator Vitalik Buterin has recently stated that he has been pushing for some client teams to develop phase 1 of the highly anticipated Ethereum 2.0 upgrade. Buterin said that it is extremely important to start work now to learn more details about how the upgrade will work. Additionally, Buterin said all specifications needed to launch phase 1 have been researched. In that sense, phase 1 only requires optimization and development, according to Buterin:
I would say there’s no unfinished research required for phase 1; it’s all spec optimization and development. I’ve been actively pushing for some client team to start development of phase 1 ASAP so we can start to get a better understanding of how phase 1 works in practice. The spec in phase 1 is actually quite simple IMO, at least conceptually; most of the hard phase 1-related things are already done in phase 0.
Challenges for the launch of Ethereum 2.0 phase 1
The inventor of Ethereum added that the most important challenge for the launch of phase 1 is the variables. Buterin clarified that sharded p2p networks have never been implemented the way they will be with phase 1. Therefore, the team risks facing “unknown unknowns”, but stressed that some necessary work has already been done on a smaller scale for attestation broadcasting, as Buterin said:
My main research concern is that it would be really nice if we can get an eth2 light client inside eth1 (or a bridge) at the same time as phase 1, as that way phase 1 becomes useful for rollups based on the eth1 chain, providing us the promised 100000 TPS scalability; the exact details of how this will be done still need a lot of work
Remarkably, phase 1 of Ethereum 2.0 will introduce the rollup technology. As reported by CNF, Buterin stated that this technology will enable the Ethereum network to process about 100,000 transactions per second (TPS). Therefore, Buterin said rollups will be the dominant scaling paradigm for Ethereum in the future.
Launch of phase 0 in November?
Currently, the launch of Phase 0 of the Ethereum 2.0 is one of the hottest topics within the crypto community. With phase 0 Ethereum will lay the foundation for the migration from proof of work to proof of stake. While a discussion arose in recent weeks that phase 0 could be delayed again until early 2021, Buterin put his foot down.
As a result, numerous core developers of Ethereum raised their voices and agreed with Buterin that phase 0 will definitely start in 2020. This has now also been confirmed by Afri Schoeden who said a few days ago that phase 0 phase will be launched in November, unless “severe bugs” are found.
