The Novant Health mobile mammogram unit provided free mammograms for 25 patients at the Hands of Hope Clinic in Yadkinville on Tuesday.
“It is so exciting to have the Novant Health breast mobile in our parking lot today,” Hands of Hope Director Marty Driver said on Tuesday. “Most of our female patients have either never had a mammogram or it’s been years since they did have one. We are so grateful for their presence here today and our community collaboration with Novant Health.”
The NH Breast Center has been offering mobile mammography since 1994. Last year a second coach was added and the mobile units screened around 5,926 women.
“Early detection of Breast Cancer saves lives,” said Hazel Willis of Novant Health. “That is why it is important to have a mammogram each year starting at age 40.”
Hands of Hope Medical Clinic, located at 320 West Maple Street in Yadkinville, is a free medical clinic that was started by volunteers in 2012. The clinic has grown through the years and has relocated and now shares a space with the county medical clinic. The clinic has a laboratory onsite with capability of instant results which allows the medical provider to prescribe medication for the patient. Most medications prescribed can be picked up at the pharmacy in the clinic either early evening of the same day or the following day. Prescriptions for medications not available onsite are provided and can be filled locally.
The clinic is the primary health care provider for more than 300 patients in Yadkin County. All residents between the ages of 19-64 without any type of health insurance such as Medicaid, Medicare or disability are eligible to be seen at the clinic on Tuesdays. This also includes full-time employees who are unable to afford insurances offered by their employer.
