XRP Ledger with smart new features available

  • Ripple’s Xpring announced the release of the new versions, 1.5.0 and 1.6.0 -b1 (beta phase) for its XRP Ledger (rippled).
  • Next week, version 1.5.0 will be deployed on the XRP Ledger Testnet.

Ripple’s commercial arm, Xpring, announced the release of two new versions for its XRP Ledger (1.5.0 and 1.6.0-b1, the second in beta stage). According to the release, the new versions of the XRP Ledger have new features and improvements aimed at improving the services it offers to its users. The versions were developed by the XRP Ledger Devnet sponsored by Xpring.

What are the improvements of the XRP Ledger?

The first version, XRP Ledger 1.5.0, includes support for the gRPC API, API versioning, UNL propagation through a peer network, new RPC methods, improved delivery method, improved handshaking protocol, improved packet building, among other bug fixes. The release also includes:

On Wednesday, 2020-04-15, rippled version 1.5.0 will be deployed on the XRP Ledger Testnet, which is also hosted by the Xpring team at Ripple, to give developers an environment for testing their applications with faux XRP that mirrors the latest stable version running on XRP Ledger Mainnet.

That day the Xpring team will also be updating its own version of the XRP Ledger mainnet servers. The update will include clusters and validators that will be upgraded to version 1.5.0. After the upgrade, Xpring will vote to approve new features to the XRP Ledger decentralized network. This will be done through its amendment system. About this process, Xpring makes the following recommendation to the XRP Ledger operators (rippled):

We encourage rippled server operators to review the proposed upgrade to rippled version 1.5.0, learn more about the Amendments above, and upgrade to rippled version 1.5.0 by Wednesday 2020-04-29 in order to ensure service continuity.

On the other hand, about the beta phase of the XRP Ledger version 1.6.0 b-1 it was known that the XRP Ledger Devnet was updated to allow developers to have access to this update. On the updates, Ripple’s Head of Global Operations and Partnerships, Emi Yoshikawa, said in reference to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic:

Even in this kind of environment, XRP Ledger continues to work hard every day, settling about 20k ledgers a day, and keeps evolving through a version upgrade!

As reported by CNF, since early April the Xpring wallet supports the STREAM interleaving protocol (ILP). The protocol allows developers to integrate flow payments for their applications through the XRP testnet, Faux Money. The service simplifies the movement of assets and messages in real time.
